Donald Knechtges Great Lakes Biomimicry, Treasurer

As GLBio's previous Vice President and Director of Economic Development, Mr. Knechtges worked closely with GLBio founder Thomas Tyrrell on strategic direction, education, and economic development. He is now an active Advisor and Board Member for the organization. 

In 2001, Mr. Knechtges co-founded GLIDE (Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise) at Lorain County Community College (LCCC) and the LCCC Foundation Innovation Fund. Mr. Knechtges served as Managing Director of GLIDE from inception until July 2007, when he became Chief Development Officer for the Innovation Fund.

Previously, he served in various senior level positions at BFGoodrich, Geon, and PolyOne. In addition to leading business activities of the Geon Corporation, he directed M&A efforts resulting in the formation of the PolyOne Company. While serving as Chief Development Officer, Mr. Knechtges managed all integration efforts to mold the former M.A. Hanna and GEON companies into a world leading polymer services company.

Mr. Knechtges serves as an Emeritus Board Member of the Mercy Hospital System in Lorain and a member of the LCCC Foundation Board and the Innovation Fund Committee. He is past Chair of the Mercy Hospital Board and LCCC Foundation Board as well as a past Vice-Chair of the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Knechtges is a member of Great Lakes Publishing and News-2- You Advisory Boards as well as Akron ArchAngels Deal Flow Committee. He holds a degree in Chemistry from Marietta College and a degree in Chemical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology.
